Delighted to say I have been commissioned by the Dunkeld Archive to write the music to a traditional song called “The Famous Scottish Horse”, which I’ll be performing on the 18th September.
The Scottish Horse were raised in 1900 for service in the Second Boer War. It fought in the First World War, as the 13th Battalion, Black Watch, and in the Second World War, as part of the Royal Artillery, later amalgamated with the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry in 1956.
Strange to think my grandfather, later a sergeant in the Black Watch, was probably a few months off joining them on the Somme.
Brigadier Sir Melville Jameson KCVO CBE will be opening the event at 10.30am at Stanley Hill Park, Dunkeld. Everyone is welcome.
