Presenting the check for a thousand pounds to Tom Purdie, representing the Hearts Great War memorial Fund
Its a long way to Gorgie from Contalmaison but we finally managed to get some money to the War Memorial Fund. Ed Westerdale and I had performed the song at the unveiling of the cairn in Contalmaison, France in memory of the 'Sporting Battalion'.
Thanks to the fans who bought the Maxi Single Hearts of Glory. Your appreciation meant that the CD reached no 20 in the BBC Indie charts and was the second biggest seller in Edinburgh in the Christmas week. Only Band Aid knocked it off the top spot. All the proceeds went to the fund. Hopefully the remaining CD's will be gradually sold from the Heart of Midlothian Official shop. The CD includes Hector Nicol's masterpiece, the 'Hearts Song' and costs 3.99. All the proceeds from this go to the fund.
Hearts of Glory
The song 'Hearts of Glory' was finally performed at Tynecastle to a capacity crowd of around 20.000 by Scapa Flow, Quest the piper stealing away from sessions in Sandy Bells to help out.
The sight of those twirling scarfs will be in my memory for a long time.
